DEEP SEA FISHING GEAR NEEDED
best place to go fishing in New England?

my boyfriends birthday is in a couple months and he loves fishing (he spent $2000 in the past 6 months on fishing gear) i dont know much about fishing besides how to put worms on a hook and cast… i would like to suprise him and maybe take him deep sea fishing or take him somewhere for a weekend with an AMAZING fishing experience but we live in the Boston area and it needs to be somewhere we can drive to.. i would prefer something under a 5 hour drive

any ideas?

his birthday is in august… are there “seasons” for fishing?

Mine is too,on the 7th,no there is fishing year round in MA.but certain waters are closed to fishing until iceout.Wachusett Reservoir is one of them, you have to check with the mwra for opening of this place, but it’s great.Usually opens April 1st,and you will see all the cars around the shoreline, there is no boats allowed here, only shorefishing.Very strictly regulated and managed and patrolled, but more than half of all the state record sized fish come from there. It’s an hour west of Boston, along routes 140,62 and 70 there are very specific areas open to fishing,so make sure you are in an open spot,There is a motor inn on route 70 that you can stay overnight.West Boylston,Boylston Spencer,Clinton, border the reservoir.there is a dept.of fish and wildlife office there on route 140,Take the Masspike west to 495N,to Route 62 W, Berlin exit, follow it to junction w/ route70,(in clinton)go left and continue on to junction route 140 N (in boylston), You have the whole area to explore,it’s 18 miles long, and I’d get a map at the dfw center or online before you go.Lots of walking involved to reach the water’s edge, but you will love the pristine experience. So will HE! there is a small bait shop just after the stone church on route 70,if he wants live bait.Enjoy!
