I want to go sea fishing around the Margate UK Area?
I am new to sea fishing having only done coarse fishing.
I have a 12 foot telescopic sea rod and a 12 foot carp rod.
I have a centre pin sea reel and a large fixed spool reel both with heavyweight line, I am not sure how strong.
Is there a good tackle shop in Margate ?
And can you give me any tips on where and when to fish in this area.
And what other tackle I will need.
Thanks Jake
The telescopic with the fixed spool reel is all you need if the reel has 10lb line or stronger. 12-15lb is normal for pier and harbour fishing and fishing off the rocks where weeds aren’t a problem, but 10lb is ok.for sandy places like Margate.
Best not to spoil the carp rod. Teles can work quite well. I use one for a travel rod.
Centre pin reels can be used but the fixed spool kind is better unless you’re on a boat.
Most fish will be 1-2lbs, a few up to 3lb and if you’re very lucky and eat all your greens you might get a 4lb or even a 5lb fish.
There are plenty of tackle shops in Margate.
. Sea fishing doesn’t need a license or a permit unless you’re going after crabs and lobsters or whelks.
Margate can be OK for fishing but it’s very variable. The sands are OK for flatfish and dogfish, codling, bass, whitefish etc if you can cast a long way out but some days are hopeless.
Night fishing can be better sometimes. Day or night the idea is to fish the tide in from a couple of hours before high tide to a couple of hours after.
You can look up the tides online…just put Margate UK tides in the search box….or buy a tide table in the newsagents and fishing shops in Margate.
All about sea fishing is on here…tackle, bait etc. A very long answer with safety for the first bit.
